Company Practices

Pacific Northwest Expeditions is committed to the principles of responsible tourism.

Responsible tourism is a management strategy embracing planning, management, product development and marketing to bring about positive economic, social, cultural, and environmental impacts.

Our planning takes into account the environmental, social, cultural, economic and aesthetic expectations of the community and our customers and are included in our policies, plans and decisions in the provision of unique sea kayak touring and wildlife viewing experiences and services.

Environmental Stewardship

A steward of the environment reflects an ecological conscience by demonstrating individual and collective responsibility for environmental health, and recognizes the need to conserve and restore the natural diversity of ecosystems and species for current and future generations.

Our trip operations are designed and conducted in a manner that will conserve natural resources, and minimize our environmental footprint. We are continually evaluating new information, technologies and services, providing our staff and ourselves with opportunities for environmental education.

Pacific Northwest Expeditions is profiled as a wilderness tourism operator demonstrating our commitment to sustainable business practices and environmental stewardship.

Social Responsibility

We strive to be sensitive to local culture and the impacts our activities can have on the communities in which we operate from. We continue to consult with local people within these communities to aid us in our planning and decision making in the delivery of our sea kayaking programs. Considerations are given to potential impacts, such as loss of privacy, invasion of culturally significant places or sacred sites.

Economic Responsibility

Pacific Northwest Expeditions is based on Vancouver Island and conducts trips from various Vancouver Island communities. We are committed to supporting these communities by promoting sustainable regional tourism, by using local businesses and suppliers for all aspects of our business and trip operations whenever possible.

We employ people from local communities as guides and support staff. We actively seek out local companies to provide support services to Pacific Northwest Expeditions, such as sea kayaking equipment manufacturers and suppliers, food producers and suppliers, and a broad range of business support services.

When Pacific Northwest Expeditions brings visitors to communities on Vancouver Island, these people contribute to local economies by using accommodations, dining in restaurants, purchasing gifts, experiencing other activities and attractions, and using local transportation providers.

Most of our guests are dazzled by the beauty of Vancouver Island, often returning on subsequent vacations for longer visits, resulting in a significant economic contribution for the region.
